This front garden transformation focuses on creating a lush, vibrant, and cohesive outdoor space using a curated mix of cottage-style and subtropical planting. The client wanted a garden rich in colour and greenery without feeling chaotic and we responded with a refined concept that balances bold planting with flow, form, and functionality.

This design brings together the nostalgic charm of a cottage garden with the resilience of subtropical planting. With thoughtful plant selection and layout, the result is a garden that feels romantic, balanced, and uniquely tailored to the local climate, a true front-yard sanctuary.

Key Features

  • The design embraces the romantic, layered look of a traditional cottage garden but adapted to suit the subtropical conditions of the Northern Rivers. We carefully selected hardy, climate-appropriate plants that still deliver softness, colour, and seasonal interest. This ensures long-term success, following the principle of “right plant, right place.”

  • Existing plants were selectively retained, relocated, or removed to reduce visual clutter and save on costs. Some were repurposed in the backyard, while new species were introduced to improve flow and cohesion.

  • We repositioned large rocks to create visual anchor points and proposed spherical-shaped shrubs and feature pots to add rhythm and form throughout the garden.
